My mates

What a Monday, feels like a Friday. I spent the morning in Port Elizabeth. Funny how when I got back I spoke to two very good friends for PE. I should have just popped in, but alas, time dictated my movements today. That said, I realized how important my friends are to me. My friends are sounding boards, advisors, carers, they always look after my best interests, and I try to the best of my ability to return the favour. I am sure that is the reason that I still have friends from my days before school.
I just spend some time with John Roy, we been friends for over 28yrs, not bad for a 32yr old. We share everything, he is blunt shoots straight and calls a spade a spade. He never hesitates to call me out if I make a bugger up, I respect him for that. He was one of the first friends I called when I found out we were having a kid. He was shocked, supportive and most importantly just there for me. We disagree on things, have different outlooks on life at times, and yet we best friends. Some of my fondest memories have been made with this bugger, some of the craziest adventures, insane intevarsity parties and just general punking around, Thanks Razz you a trooper.
Then there is a bugger like Uncle Paul, although younger, wize beyond his years. A deep thinker, artist, philosopher, sportsman and as straight as an arrow. Always there to listen, a man of few words yet when he speaks you know that he has given deep thought to his words. In my sons eyes, Uncle Paul is the strongest, cleverest, tallest man in the world, Easy E you right my boy, uncle Paul is a giant.
Nielbo and Pudding fall in the same boat one could say, completely different yet similar people. Outdoorsman, not willing to accept what they do not desire, able to make the best of any situation.
Marco, another uncle, the “old man” of my friends, a conservative hard worker with a good ethic to everything he does. I want to undertake an adventure, he will look for a cause to benefit from doing the adventure. Marco looks out for himself, but never ever at the expense of anyone else, unselfish of his time and knowlegde.
Garry and I have been close since we both started working, we went to school together but only when we hit the market place did we clique, sheez my mentor, motivator, business brain do it yourself guy, reads the right books, says the right things, fights the good fight.
I could go on, each friend means something special to me, and they all good guys. We look out for each other, sometimes we drop the ball thats ok, we only human. My mates are my mates for a reason, chatting to Bron tonight made me realise how special they are to me, so tonight I will start sending each one a message and letting them know that I value their friendship, because without my friends this world would be a lonely place. Thank you Bugs for reminding me and thank you for being my friend.
