So tonight is our State of the Nation address, or SONA2015 as people now call it.

It started late, there was a technical interference blocking cell phone reception, party members were disrespectful, the speaker of the house was disrespectful and would not be accountable for her decisions; people were forcibly removed, punches were thrown, the main opposition party walked out before our president even delivered his speech.

Is this indicative of who we are as a Nation? Are we a nation of thugs that are above the law? Even as I write this I am listening to President Zuma deliver his speech and I feel ashamed that I have very little respect for our countries number 1 leader. That said I do not believe that he has earned much respect. Our president is one of the leading reasons that the Nation is in the state it is in.

Greed. Lies. Disrespect. I do not want my children or any of their generation growing up to be like some of our purported leaders. Where do our children turn to to learn valuable leadership skills like honesty, humility, compassion, fairness, respect. They will not find it on our TV’s, nor in the News, they definitely will not find it in any of our majority of our Politicians.  It is up to us, the parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, we need to take the lead. We need to look beyond our borders. We need to consider our options not just for our sake but for the sake of our children and their children.

The time has come to rebuild, and the best place to start is right with me. 2015 is my year of rebuilding and our leaders are making my decisions that much easier.
