Dreams do come true

“Dreams do come true.” This is a phrase that anyone who has watched fairy tales would have heard over and over again. But life is not a fairy tale, or is it?

This year the Theme that Tania and I set for ourselves as a couple is exactly that. Dreams do come true, and we are going to go about creating that very experience for ourselves. So on top of my personal theme of Awaken I am going about realizing my dreams.

When one actually takes the time to reflect on your life you will notice that your dreams do in fact come true. I challenge you to look back on events that have happened to you and I am certain that you would have some experience of picturing or imaging the event, emotion or outcome that was in your consciousness long before the event took place. On Saturday we did a hike along one of our beaches and then camped overnight in the dunes and proceeded to hike back on Sunday, over the 2 days and 40 odd kilometers that we walked I had lots of time to reflect on my life and the things that have come to fruition. The frightening realization was that whether I had dreamt of positive outcomes or negative outcomes they both seemed to manifest in my life. All too often I have been dreaming without awareness of what I am creating, and bad thoughts or dreams are just as likely to manifest as good thoughts and dreams. My challenge is to focus on the things I want to experience.

I do not think that there is a magic wand that just makes your dreams become your reality. In fact we tend to behave in a matter that reflects our inward focus and our behaviour then brings about certain results. So if I can change my focus, I will change my behaviour and that will lead to a different set of results. This is pretty much the formula that Tania and I live by. We build our relationship together based on our dreams, we imagine how we would like to be and then work towards that. We consciously hold ourselves accountable to ourselves and to each other and we work together as a unit. We have extended this idea to our children as well, and our discussion around the dinner table started with our daily gratitude’s and then discussion about life, the future, our hopes and dreams. A dream verbalized by any one of us has far more chance of being realized as the rest of us will all start working is help see that dream become a reality.

In our house Dreams do come true, and in 2016 Tania and I are going to maximize this and live the life of our choosing and overcome any challenges or unexpected events and keep our focus on that which truly matters to us as individuals, as a couple, as a family and as active members of our vibrant little community in Port Alfred.
